Hello everyone, I have been working from home for some time and recently got the Ikea Brimnes bed with drawers to create more storage space. However, I’m wondering how to use this piece of furniture efficiently in my daily work routine. Specifically, I’m interested in how to best organize the space under and around the bed for work materials or documents in a practical way, without overcrowding the workspace or sacrificing comfort. Has anyone had experience setting up the Brimnes in a home office so that it supports both storage and ergonomic needs? I would appreciate any ideas, especially practical tips on organization and integrating it into the workspace, as my room is quite small and I want to make the most of the available space.

Hello Tojasi, I’m happy to share some ideas on how to use the Ikea Brimnes efficiently in a home office. First, you should organize the drawers by categories: - Work documents like folders and important papers - Office supplies such as pens, notepads, cables, and tech accessories - Personal items you want to have quickly accessible during work – this way, everything stays organized and easy to reach. Use simple drawer organizers to avoid clutter. Also, the raised bed frame is ideal for placing flat boxes or rolling containers underneath to create small storage spaces for items you rarely use. This keeps your desk clear and tidy. Make sure your workspace is ergonomically set up, so seat height and monitor position are not affected by the under-bed storage. Finally, keep the areas clearly separated so you have a defined work zone mentally in your home office, even if it is right next to your bed.

That’s a great point because I underestimated this at the beginning and quickly ended up with messy drawers. Using small boxes and clear labels really helps me stay organized—especially when space is so limited.

Regarding Tojasi’s question: I find it mentally important not to mix everything in one piece of furniture, so not to blend bed and work completely. Since the Brimnes is a bed with storage, I made sure to store work-related items only in the lower drawers, keeping my bed area free for relaxation.

Here I would add that if possible, you should separate your workspace from the bed area, even if it’s in the same room. That personally helps me clearly distinguish between work and leisure time.

If your room is too small, you should at least create visual boundaries using rugs or room dividers.

I completely agree with that. Additionally, I recommend storing frequently used work tools in the top drawers for quick and ergonomic access. Anything unnecessary can be kept in the lower drawers or boxes.

Also: Use the bed only for sleeping and resting, not as a workspace, to maintain clear boundaries.
