Hello everyone,
I am planning to divide my living room using the Ikea PLATSA system as a room divider, and at the same time, I want to use the divider as storage space as effectively as possible. My detailed question is: How can I arrange and combine the Ikea PLATSA modules so that they function both as an attractive room divider and provide enough storage to organize various items neatly and practically? I am especially interested in advice on efficient space layout, combining open and closed compartments, and suggestions on how to position the modules to be stable and flexible. It would be great if you could also share your experiences with mounting options or possible additions such as doors, drawers, or shelves. Thanks in advance!

A few months ago, I built a Platsa wall as a room divider myself, and I can say that the stability when placing it freely in a room is often underestimated. Even when the modules are screwed together, they sometimes wobble if they are freestanding. For this reason, I glued floor discs with felt pads under the bottom row to make it more slip-resistant.
I would also like to point out that mixing different types of openings – some compartments open for visibility, others with doors for storage – works really well.
I can confirm that; otherwise, it quickly feels like a "wall" and makes the room feel too confined.

Plan your room divider height so that you can still easily look over it

As a final note: The flexibility of PLATSA makes it an ideal choice for changing needs – you can swap or add modules later on.
Also, combining it with lighting (LED strips) on the back can turn the room divider into a focal point and create a pleasant atmosphere.
Good luck with your project!
