Hello everyone, I would like to start a discussion about an issue that often causes me frustration when assembling IKEA Hemnes furniture: How can unexpected problems during assembly be resolved? Usually, I can follow the included instructions well, but unexpected difficulties frequently arise, such as incorrectly fitting dowels, unexplained misalignments, or partially missing drill holes. I am particularly interested in practical and reliable solutions you know to overcome these obstacles without compromising the stability or appearance of the furniture. Who has had similar experiences and can share tips on how to handle these challenges when assembling Hemnes furniture?

I just wanted to chime in: keep your spirits up, it will work out! I have often been in the same situation, getting frustrated at first, but with patience everything eventually falls into place! My advice: never assemble the furniture in a rush and take a short break after each step. This keeps the mood positive and helps you spot mistakes more easily. Also, for Hemnes screws, consider using a cordless drill with adjustable torque settings – this protects the wood significantly and prevents damage. Good luck to you all!

With Hemnes, it can help to use additional small wooden strips or double-sided tape to hold parts in place before screwing.

Thanks, that sounds like a practical idea. Could you please explain in detail how you use the wooden strips? Do you use them to fill gaps where parts don’t fit well, or more as a tool to hold parts securely together? And regarding the double-sided tape: in which areas have you found it especially useful? I’m really looking forward to the details!

Do you use them to “fill in” uneven areas or more as aids to firmly join parts together?

I can add to that: I actually use wooden strips for both purposes. Especially with Hemnes, where one side can be slightly uneven, I place small wooden strips at critical points so everything sits flush and the screws grip properly. I first test the fit dry, then secure the strips with wood glue.

Regarding double-sided tape: It’s very handy when installing back panels or fixing smaller coverings that might shift during screwing. It makes assembly easier and helps avoid frustration.
