Good morning everyone, I am planning a move soon and own several Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets that I would like to transport as safely and without damage as possible. Since the cabinets consist of multiple parts, often with shelves, drawers, and doors, I am concerned about scratches, dents, or even warping of the panels and supports.
My specific question is: How can Ikea Metod cabinets be transported safely and without damage during a move? I am especially interested in how to securely fix individual modules, protect the surfaces, and whether it is better to disassemble parts or not. Maybe you also have practical tips on how to properly secure or pack delicate drawers or glass fronts. I look forward to hearing your experiences and suggestions!

Hey, I completely understand the frustration when moving METOD cabinets! But don’t worry, if you follow a few tips, it works out great!
I would definitely disassemble all the cabinets, remove the doors and drawers, then wrap each panel in a furniture blanket. For the drawer rails, just tape them off to prevent scratches or dirt.
And very important: secure the modules upright in the vehicle! If you don’t have ratchet straps, at least put non-slip mats underneath and wedge the cabinets firmly so nothing shifts.
Otherwise, good luck and stay calm during your move!

It also helps to keep in mind that small dents and scratches, while frustrating, are often avoidable with a systematic approach.
Maybe it helps to take a step back: How did the move go? Was everything scheduled with enough time to avoid rushing? In my experience, calmness and well-organized procedures help prevent accidents.
How have packaging and transport gone for you so far? Have there been any problems with damage, or are the cabinets already being actively repaired?
Another technical consideration for careful transportation: The connectors of the Metod cabinets are not designed for permanent installations but rather for fixed assembly on site. When moving them, the following points should be observed:
- The swivel connectors should be loosened before transport to avoid stress, as vibrations can cause material to settle and potentially damage other parts
- It is best to apply self-adhesive edge protection profiles to the panels to protect sensitive edges
- Collect screws and connectors in small bags and label them clearly
- Wrap assembled cabinets with stretch film to protect the modules and secure loose parts
Anyone planning to reassemble the cabinets should also keep the assembly instructions handy to avoid losses or mistakes.
