Good morning everyone, I am planning a move soon and own several Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets that I would like to transport as safely and without damage as possible. Since the cabinets consist of multiple parts, often with shelves, drawers, and doors, I am concerned about scratches, dents, or even warping of the panels and supports.

My specific question is: How can Ikea Metod cabinets be transported safely and without damage during a move? I am especially interested in how to securely fix individual modules, protect the surfaces, and whether it is better to disassemble parts or not. Maybe you also have practical tips on how to properly secure or pack delicate drawers or glass fronts. I look forward to hearing your experiences and suggestions!

For safe and damage-free transport of Ikea Metod cabinets, it is advisable to fully dismantle the individual units whenever possible.

- Remove the doors and pack them separately, as they are the most fragile parts
- Completely empty the drawers and remove them as well
- Loosen all connecting fittings and, if necessary, break down the units into smaller segments
- Protect edges and surfaces with bubble wrap or special furniture blankets
- Transport cabinets in an upright position to avoid warping

Additionally, use strong straps to prevent shifting during transport. Please avoid stacking furniture directly on top of each other, as this can cause pressure marks.

I would like to add that when disassembling Metod cabinets, special care must be taken with the connectors. The Metod system uses specific eccentric cam connectors and dowels that can be easily damaged if handled improperly.

My detailed recommendations:

- When dismantling, always carefully unscrew all screws and slowly remove the connectors to prevent any breakage.
- Avoid stacking heavy panels directly on top of each other without padding, as the surface can scratch easily.
- Use designated screw containers to keep small parts organized and prevent loss.
- Wrap glass fronts separately in foam foil and pack them in sturdy boxes.

Regarding transportation itself: Modules should be transported upright whenever possible, especially if already assembled. This reduces pressure on the bottoms and side panels.

I would like to question this again: Are there any reliable statements or practical experiences proving that upright transport actually delivers significantly better results compared to lying flat?

In my experience, transport lying flat can also work if the cabinets are well padded and secured. It would also be interesting to know to what extent the condition of the protective film affects scratches—that is, whether the protective film on the panels should be left on or removed.

Who can provide reliable advice based on concrete tests or multiple experiences?

Disassemble cabinets as much as possible, packing doors, drawers, and shelves separately.

Protect with blankets.

Transport upright, yes. Do not keep plastic wrap on.

Regarding protective film: The original protective films on the Ikea Metod panels are often prone to scratching and can leave difficult-to-remove residue when peeled off later. Therefore, I recommend carefully removing the film before transport and using furniture blankets or bubble wrap instead.

For securely packaging individual components:
- Place thick cardboard between doors
- Wrap drawers with padding film or, if possible, remove them completely
- Stack shelves with felt pads or thick blankets between them for protection

Have you arranged a suitable vehicle yet? The size of the transporter is important to avoid crushing the items.
