Hello everyone, some time ago I bought the Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets, but now I’m looking for ideas on how to repurpose these modules for even more storage—especially outside the kitchen. Maybe someone has experience using these cabinets multifunctionally, for example as storage in the living room, home office, or hallway? What’s important to me are space-saving solutions that are still sturdy and visually integrate well. Are there any tips for adding shelves, pull-outs, or extra components to truly increase the storage capacity? I look forward to concrete suggestions and personal experiences that can help me get the most out of the Metod cabinets.

Basically, Ikea Metod cabinet modules are designed to be highly modular, which makes repurposing them easier. To increase storage space, consider the following:

- Adding extra shelves to maximize interior space
- Using pull-out organizers or drawer inserts from Ikea’s accessory range
- Adding wall cabinets or shelves on top to increase vertical capacity
- Using divider systems to improve organization, especially for smaller items

If the cabinets are used outside the kitchen, I recommend adjusting the appearance with matching fronts or decorative panels to ensure a harmonious integration into the room. Additionally, installing plinths or casters can make the units more flexible to use.

That is absolutely true, and I would like to add: Metod cabinets are also excellent for use as room dividers. Especially if you have limited space in a home office, you can place cabinets perpendicular to the wall to create storage while dividing the room.

I also use adjustable shelves that can be installed at various heights – this optimizes the space, particularly for books or office supplies. For better organization, interior baskets and boxes that can be labeled help keep things tidy inside the cabinets.

For those with some DIY skills, simple wood cuts and minor modifications can add features like folding doors or pull-out drawers – Ikea offers many expansion options for this. Overall, these are durable pieces of furniture that can be easily adapted even when moving house.

I think the Metod cabinets are simply brilliant because they offer so many possibilities! 😃 For extra storage, I often use storage boxes and stackable baskets inside the cabinets, which really helps keep things organized and makes everything easier to find. Adding additional shelves also allows you to store many small items separately.

I especially like combining some modules with doors and others with open shelves – this not only looks great but also has practical advantages. And if something doesn’t fit, you can easily take the system apart and reassemble it. For anyone who needs more storage space, I can only say: give it a try, there are so many options!

Best regards and good luck optimizing your storage!
