Hello everyone, I have several pieces from the IKEA Brimnes series and would like to visually and functionally enhance them to better suit my living style. Therefore, my question is: What options for modifying BRIMNES furniture do you know of? I am especially interested in ideas on how to customize the rather simple design with a manageable amount of effort, without compromising stability or functionality. Are there any tips for painting, new handles, shelves, or even more extensive changes like structural modifications? Perhaps you also have experience with suitable accessories or additional DIY measures? Thanks in advance for your ideas and suggestions!
Hey piren43, the BRIMNES is really a great basic frame! 😄 For example, I sanded the doors and then painted them with chalk paint – it was super easy and gives a nice vintage look. New handles made of wood or metal also make a big difference. For the interior, I used colored contact paper, which instantly makes everything look much more lively. You can also experiment with furniture legs to give it a much more elegant appearance. Have fun upcycling!
As a supplement: When making modifications, I would always be careful not to change or remove any load-bearing elements. For the fronts, in addition to changing the color, applying vinyl wraps is also an option, with matte finishes often appearing more elegant. Simple handles made of brass or brushed metal work well for replacements. To increase storage space, you can install interior drawers or integrate LED strips to make the contents more visible.
