ᐅ How can I protect and landscape my 4x4 meter wooden deck from the sun?

I really like my new wooden deck, especially because of the sunlight exposure in the evenings when the sun stays out longer. However, since it is located right next to the fence (street) and the parking space, I do feel a bit too exposed sitting there.

Also, in the summer there is often too much sun, while in spring and autumn I imagine that with some protection, I could use the area for longer periods.

Since I also want to transform part of the lawn into a more natural, wild garden, I am looking for good ideas to make the space more comfortable—plant suggestions would be especially welcome, as I am a complete beginner in this area.

I would like to build the additions myself (out of wood?), as I enjoy that kind of work. This project is planned for next spring anyway, as other tasks are more important at the moment.

At the front corner where the sun umbrella is currently placed, or about 1 meter (3 feet) towards the house (in the direction of the photographer), I will soon plant a 2 to 2.5 meter (6.5 to 8 feet) tall catalpa tree because it provides nice shade...

How about a combination of a carport with a pergola? Basically mirrored, sharing a common roof, which you could also cover with plenty of photovoltaic panels. You could still add plants on the side and towards the street.

Good idea @borderpuschl, I thought about that for a few seconds too 😉. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to build a carport so close to the boundary line at the front. Otherwise, I would have liked to have some cover over my parking space...
