Hello everyone, I am looking for targeted tips and strategies on how to make the best use of the Ikea Brimnes furniture series – especially the dressers and beds – in very small rooms. My main goal is to maximize the available storage space without making the room feel overcrowded or cluttered. For example, I have a small bedroom of about 10-12 square meters (108-129 square feet), where I want to fit a sleeping area, storage for clothes, books, and small items, and maybe a small workspace or reading corner. What arrangement of Brimnes pieces has proven effective in such tight spaces? Are there any useful additions or tricks to keep the setup functional while avoiding overwhelming the room? I appreciate any experiences, ideas, or advice that can help really unlock the potential of this series in very small rooms.

Use small organizers inside to keep small items from getting mixed up. That’s a great tip! I used to just throw everything in randomly, which of course quickly led to chaos.

The open-top design is ideal for using baskets or boxes that can be easily removed. I do the same. I chose nice, color-coordinated baskets, which not only keeps things tidy but also looks good and avoids visual clutter.
By the way: Did you position the bed against the side or the wall? How did you plan enough space around it for movement? Especially in small rooms, I often struggle with that without the furniture feeling cramped.
In summary, when using the Brimnes series for small rooms, keep the following points in mind:
- Choose the Brimnes bed with storage drawers to efficiently use the space under the mattress.
- Arrange the furniture so that drawers remain accessible and do not block movement areas.
- Use dressers modularly without overcrowding the room.
- Add storage with wall shelves and hooks to make good use of vertical space.
- Use drawer dividers and boxes to keep drawers organized.
- Avoid oversized nightstands; the bedside surface areas are often sufficient.
This careful planning and systematic use of the Brimnes modules results in a functional and visually balanced space in a small area. Accurate measurements and, if needed, the use of space planning tools are important for optimization.

Did you position the bed lengthwise or against the wall? How did you plan the space for moving around it? Thanks for the follow-up question, that’s really helpful! My room is a rectangular space about 3.5 m (11.5 ft) long and just under 3 m (9.8 ft) wide. I would like to place the Brimnes bed along the longer wall, leaving roughly 70 cm (28 inches) of clearance to the opposite wall. On the right side, there would theoretically be space for a dresser about 80 cm (31.5 inches) deep.
However, I find it difficult on my own to imagine how best to position the drawers and doors without cluttering the room or making it impractical. Am I correct in thinking that you can’t easily open the side drawers of the bed if the wall is too close? Or are there tricks to handle this cleverly?
Thanks again to everyone for the valuable advice—I will try your suggestions step by step.
