Hello everyone, I am currently considering whether the Ikea Brimnes furniture series is suitable for couples, especially regarding functionality and storage in bedrooms with limited space. My question is mainly directed at couples who already have experience with this type of furniture: How satisfied are you with the layout, stability, and long-term use when sharing the furniture? Have certain elements, such as the wardrobe or beds, proven to be particularly practical or problematic? I look forward to your personal assessments and would also like to know if the choice of BRIMNES furniture is recommended for small to medium-sized rooms without either of you feeling cramped.

I have had Brimnes furniture in our bedroom for almost 4 years now. We are a couple and share not only the bed but also the storage space, which requires careful planning at the beginning. The drawers on the bed use rollers, and even after years, they still slide smoothly, which is a plus. One thing I have often noticed is the stress on the hinges of the wardrobes, which IKEA has since addressed with improvements.

Combining several BRIMNES pieces works well because the series is well coordinated in terms of dimensions. The surface is easy to maintain, which is helpful in a partnership with different daily routines.

One recommendation: Make sure to secure the units properly to the wall to ensure long-term stability—especially when couples open the wardrobes together or access them multiple times a day.

What is the room size in your case? That significantly affects the recommendation.

Thank you for the responses so far! Regarding the room size: we have about 14 square meters (150 square feet), which definitely makes fitting a double bed plus some storage a challenge. That’s why I find the idea of drawers under the bed particularly interesting.

I’m still concerned about the layout because I’m worried that with items stored in drawers and cabinets, things could quickly become chaotic without a proper plan for sharing the space. Are there any best practices for couples to optimally organize the BRIMNES furniture? Especially when one person has significantly more clothes or personal belongings.

A proven method is to keep storage space strictly separate: for example, assigning a drawer or part of a cabinet entirely to one person and leaving the rest to their partner. This helps avoid conflicts and keeps the organization system clear. BRIMNES is well suited for this due to its modular design.

That’s exactly why you should divide it up – everyone has their own drawers. Minimal effort, maximum organization.

Yes, that’s exactly how it was for us too! We simply assigned everyone their own area, and it works great! 🙂

Oh, and my pro tip: declutter regularly! That way, everything stays organized and everyone has enough space!

I would like to elaborate on this topic because storage organization is essential for BRIMNES couples.

1. Planning: Before assembly, create a plan outlining which compartments and drawers each person will use.
2. Organization systems: Use boxes or organizers inside drawers to sort small items.
3. The focal point: The bed with drawers provides the best storage space – it is advisable to store heavy items at the bottom.
4. Accessibility: Make sure each partner has easy access to “their” area.

Mistakes to avoid:
- Creating too many different storage locations causes clutter.
- Overfilling drawers, which then get stuck.
- Not decluttering regularly.

Overall, BRIMNES furniture works well for couples if they agree on a shared system and maintain it.
