Hello everyone, I am currently planning the layout of my small bedroom (approximately 9 square meters (97 square feet)) and considering the best way to place the IKEA Platsa system without making the room feel cramped or visually overwhelming.

Since Platsa is very modular and I mainly need storage space for clothing and a few books, I also want to take into account the common tight spots caused by doors or windows.

Does anyone have experience with the smartest way to arrange Platsa in small rooms to keep the space as open as possible while still ensuring everything is easily accessible? Tips on combining wardrobes and possibly room dividers would also be appreciated. I look forward to your opinions and ideas!

I would always recommend placing Platsa entirely against a wall whenever possible. This keeps the center of the room open.

Alternatively, low units under the window also work well. This way, you make the most of the space without visually cluttering the room.

Avoid freestanding elements in the middle of the room, as this can quickly make the space feel overcrowded.

From a systematic perspective, the following approach is advisable for small rooms using the IKEA Platsa system:

- Use the modular system primarily along a single wall to create sufficient storage space without visually overcrowding the room.
- Corner modules can be helpful to optimize space utilization, but only if there is enough room to open them comfortably.
- Plan the storage so that upper compartments are not mounted too high, to avoid visually lowering the ceiling height.
- If possible, choose flat doors that open easily without requiring additional clearance.
- For small rooms, using mirrors on cabinet doors or nearby can help make the space appear larger.

You should pay special attention to this when measuring, as doors and windows limit the usable planning area.

Hey ixkin, that sounds exciting—I’m really happy for you! 😊

What always helps me is to visualize the available floor space beforehand, either virtually or by sketching it out. Platsa is great because it’s customizable, but that can also be confusing—so stick to clear lines.

Another approach that works well in small rooms is combining open and closed elements to keep the space airy and prevent it from feeling like a box.

And one more tip: use light colors with Platsa, as they reflect light and make small rooms appear larger. You’ll definitely do a great job—enjoy setting it up!
