Hello everyone, I am planning to customize my Ikea Brimnes furniture a bit more individually and am wondering which modifications are best achievable without compromising stability or functionality. I am especially interested in practical and aesthetic adjustments that can be done with reasonable effort. Does anyone have experience with changes like adding extra shelves, changing the color, or integrating lighting? Tips on proper preparation or recommended materials would also be great, so I don’t make any mistakes.

The easiest way is to paint the furniture or apply adhesive film. For additional shelves, you can cut sturdy boards to size and secure them with angle brackets. For LED lighting, I recommend flexible strips with a self-adhesive backing, which are usually easy to install.

Regarding modifications to the BRIMNES series, it can be said that the wood-based material is very easy to work with if you keep the following points in mind: - Pre-drill any new holes to avoid splintering. - Use water-based paints or special furniture foil finishes for a clean surface. - The stability of the shelves can be improved with additional metal brackets, especially for longer shelves. When integrating LED lighting, I recommend using existing edges or cavities and opting for self-adhesive, low-profile LED strips to keep them invisible. I’m also interested in the exact furniture arrangement you have, as this can influence how and where modifications are best applied.

Hey drame, I love customizing furniture a bit! 😄 For the BRIMNES series, I’ve already painted the fronts with chalkboard paint – it not only looks great but is also very practical for notes or shopping lists directly on the furniture. A small tip: matte films can also be easily cut and give the look a cool upgrade without much effort. And hey, LED strip lights under shelves are a real eye-catcher without creating much cable clutter!

The BRIMNES furniture is made of coated engineered wood, providing a good base for surface modifications. When adding extra components, users should pay attention to the maximum load capacity to avoid compromising stability. Self-adhesive LED modules with low heat generation are advantageous. Color changes using spray paint or adhesive films are technically possible, but careful surface preparation is necessary to ensure adhesion and durability. It is advisable to test first on an inconspicuous area.

I’m a big fan of giving furniture some personality, and I think the BRIMNES series is perfect for that. 😎 For example, I added a few high-quality metal handles to my wardrobe – super easy and instantly gives it a modern touch! You can also install small interior features like coated shelves or drawer organizers to improve organization. Definitely a fun project – and your living room becomes a real eye-catcher!
