Hello everyone, I have an Ikea Brimnes wardrobe at home with doors that are quite loud and rattling when opened and closed. What bothers me most is the loud slamming of the doors, which is especially annoying in the evening. I would like to make the doors quieter so they don’t slam or sound loud anymore, without losing their functionality or making major modifications. Are there any practical tips or proven methods to easily and effectively dampen the Brimnes doors? Has anyone had experience with special dampers, rubber bumpers, or other solutions that work well? I look forward to your advice and suggestions!

The easiest option is rubber buffers that can be glued to the impact points, for example on the inside of the doors or the cabinet body. This significantly dampens the slamming noise. Alternatively, self-adhesive felt pads can also be used.

The topic of insulating Ikea Brimnes doors is quite interesting because the carcass and doors are made from relatively thin engineered wood, which amplifies sound accordingly. First, I would check whether the doors are hung precisely and if the hinges are properly adjusted. Poor fitting often leads to additional resonance and loud noises.

There are several approaches to quieter closing:

- Installing special soft-close dampers, which are available as retrofit kits. These are mounted between the door and the carcass and prevent slamming.
- Using self-adhesive rubber or silicone bumpers placed at the contact points between the door and the carcass. They act as shock absorbers and significantly reduce noise levels.
- Replacing or adding hinges with versions that have integrated damping, if possible.

It is important that the dampers are not too thick; otherwise, the doors might not close properly. Could you describe in more detail how the doors are currently set up and exactly where the noises occur? Are the noises coming from the hinges or from the door edges slamming?

Haha, that’s exactly it! Sometimes it sounds like a knock concert when you want to grab something late at night 🙂

I had the same problem with my Brimnes wardrobe doors and used some simple felt pads from the furniture store. I stick them on the inside edges where the doors meet the frame. Much better already!

Also, I adjusted the hinges a bit because if the doors are not perfectly aligned, they rattle even more. A little fine-tuning works wonders—in case of doubt, the small Allen key Ikea always includes helps a lot.

If you want, you can also experiment with some rubber bumpers. For example, I glued small silicone strips behind the door, which cushions the impact softly.

So, feel free to try it out; it doesn’t cost much and often brings quite a bit of quietness. Good luck!
