I have a somewhat special request: I would like to customize the doors of my Ikea Pax wardrobe, as they are quite plain and standard. I am particularly interested in creative, yet practical options that can be applied easily without damaging the doors or affecting their functionality.
Has anyone had experience with different techniques such as painting, applying films, decals, or perhaps adding handles that work well for this purpose?
Additionally, how about durability and cleaning in everyday use? Are there materials or methods that you would especially recommend or advise against?
I appreciate any tips or suggestions, including practical examples. Thank you in advance!

There are several ways to approach your project. Here are a few basic options:
- Adhesive films: Very popular because they can be removed without residue and come in countless designs.
- Wall paints or chalk paints: For a custom paint finish, but you should sand and prime the doors well beforehand.
- Wallpaper or fabrics: If applied carefully, you can achieve very personal patterns and textures. Be cautious of moisture!
- Replacing the doors: PAX also offers doors in different designs that can be purchased separately.
Regarding durability, adhesive films are generally very low maintenance. Paints can be protected with a special clear coat. Cleaning is best with a damp cloth without harsh cleaners to preserve the decoration.
If you want more detailed tips on any of these methods, I’m happy to help!

I would like to individually decorate the doors of my Ikea PAX wardrobe, as they are quite plain and standard.Hey, that sounds like a really exciting project!
I covered my PAX doors with adhesive vinyl – it’s super easy to apply, and you can choose great patterns or even metallic finishes. The vinyl sticks really well, and if you ever want a change, you can simply peel it off again.
I also installed wooden handles to add a bit of a vintage touch, which really livens up the look! 🙂
I definitely recommend checking out different types of vinyl at your local hardware or craft store, there are some really cool options available.
Good luck – it’s going to look great!

I am particularly interested in creative but also practical solutions that can be easily implemented without damaging the doors or compromising their functionality. It is important to consider the surface texture of the doors. PAX doors are usually melamine-coated, so the adhesion of decorative materials should be ensured.
Recommended options include:
- High-quality, residue-free adhesive films (vinyl without harsh solvents)
- Magnetic paint as a base for changeable decorations
- Adhesive profiles and moldings to create relief patterns
Strong adhesives or moisture-intensive paints that could damage the material or impair functionality should be avoided.
For cleaning, mild, non-abrasive cloths and neutral cleaners are suitable to prevent damage.

It was similar for me: at first, I was concerned about possible damage, but after some research, I chose magnetic film that I attach to the doors. This way, I can change the decoration whenever I want, and it doesn’t feel too bulky.
Sometimes there’s also a worry that the door might no longer close properly or get stuck, but with some care in selecting the thickness, it works quite well.
Any ideas on how to incorporate the handles? A small accent there would probably look great too.
