Hello everyone, I am planning to equip my Ikea Pax wardrobe with integrated lighting to improve the visibility inside and create an appealing atmosphere at the same time. My specific question is: which lighting solutions are best suited for an Ikea Pax, especially regarding easy installation, power supply, and the possibility to individually illuminate different sections? I am also interested in practical tips on control methods, such as whether LED strips, motion sensors, or wireless options work better. Any advice on materials and installation techniques would also be appreciated. Thank you in advance!
LED strips are particularly suitable for an Ikea Pax wardrobe because they are flexible, generate little heat, and are easy to install. Sets with integrated USB or mains power connections are recommended, so no complex electrical installation is required. To illuminate different areas individually, multiple strips can be connected in parallel or controlled via a controller. Motion sensors work well for automatic activation but limit flexibility in control. For mounting, I recommend double-sided tape or magnetic mounts, which allow for residue-free removal.
Hello YIGIT67, your idea to equip the Ikea Pax wardrobe with lighting is really practical and significantly improves comfort. A few points to consider:
- LED strips are ideal because they are flexible, operate on 12 volts, and produce little heat.
- For power supply, you can either use a power adapter plugged into an electrical outlet or, if cable routing is difficult, battery packs or power banks with suitable USB connections.
- Installation works best on the side panels or under the shelves. Clips and adhesive tapes provide good hold there.
- If you want to control different areas separately, controllers with remote control or app operation are a solution. This way, you can also dim the lights or change colors if you use RGB LEDs.
- Motion sensors are especially convenient for automatic light activation, but the sensitivity should be well adjusted so the light does not activate at every small movement.
For routing the cables, I recommend planning the cable management carefully to avoid any disturbances or visible wiring. Cutting and adjusting the strips should be done cautiously, as LED strips can usually only be shortened at specific markings.
If you are handy, this can also be realized well with additional connectors. I always recommend creating a detailed lighting plan before installation to place all connections properly.
If you have any questions, just ask!

Wow, that sounds really exciting with the lighting on the Pax! I did the same in my setup and can only say: LED strips are amazing!
- Installation was super easy with adhesive tape.
- For power supply, I used a small USB power adapter.
- I use a remote control to manage different lighting scenes – really convenient!
- Motion sensors are great, especially when you want light automatically during the evening, while checking the wardrobe in the daytime.
Go for it, it’s a lot of fun and the lighting really highlights the wardrobe! 😊

If you want to control different areas separately, controllers with remote control or app control are a solution.Thank you very much for the helpful explanations!Could you maybe explain in more detail how such a control system with multiple LED strips generally works in a Pax? For example, I imagine controlling the left area and the right area separately. Do I need multiple power supplies for that, or can I manage with just one? Are there special controllers that can be easily connected in between? I definitely want to avoid too much cable clutter or complicated DIY setups.
Thanks also to everyone else for the brief answers – I will check those later as well!
