Hello everyone, I want to enhance my Ikea Pax wardrobe doors with decorative film and achieve a durable, attractive result. My question is, what is the best approach: Which type of decorative film works best on the smooth surfaces of the Pax doors? Should I sand or clean the doors beforehand, and if so, how thoroughly? Are there special techniques or tools that make applying the film easier? And what about durability – how can I prevent the film from peeling off or developing bubbles quickly? I look forward to your tips and experiences, including any recommendations for specific brands or patterns that work particularly well!

I applied the film when it was too cold and didn’t properly remove the air bubbles.I totally agree. This is usually avoided quite well by warming the film slightly in your hands or with a hairdryer before applying it.
Also, a tip: When you cover the handle area on Ikea Pax doors with film, you should either remove the handles before applying the film or cut very precisely around the handles to prevent the finish from looking messy later. The edges of the film on cabinet doors should not be overstretched.
I am particularly interested in the question of the ideal film quality. Does anyone have recommendations on which film is best suited for colorfastness and durability with regular use? I find this especially important for white or light-colored options, which are often used with Pax. Thanks!
I would recommend high-quality furniture films designed for kitchen fronts. They are scratch-resistant, water-resistant, and maintain their appearance for a long time.
Definitely use a precisely fitting cutter and squeegee. Thorough cleaning and careful application are the keys to success.

I would only sand very lightly with fine sandpaper (grit 400 or finer), if the surface is very smooth or coated,Thank you, the idea of light sanding sounds helpful – I was thinking about wiping the doors with acetone before applying the film. Would that still be recommended, or is that too aggressive?

It’s important not to set the heat too high, as this can cause the film to deform or be damaged. How much should the film be warmed up if necessary? Are there any practical guidelines or an approximate temperature?
