Hello everyone, I am planning to install an IKEA Metod kitchen and want to customize the cabinets, especially by painting them. I am interested in how to best prepare and paint the cabinet fronts to achieve a durable and high-quality finish. Which types of paint are suitable for Metod fronts (MDF or particleboard), what should be considered when sanding and priming, and are there any tips for achieving an even, bubble-free result? I would also appreciate advice on alternative design options using films or tints. I look forward to your experiences and expert tips!
I once painted my Metod cabinet doors with chalk paint – super easy and it gives the kitchen a real vintage charm! You don’t necessarily need professional paints if you want a matte, cozy look. Of course, you should still sand and prime thoroughly beforehand, but the chalk paint provides great coverage and is very friendly for DIY beginners. A little tip: seal everything afterwards with wax, then it lasts really well and feels nice and soft.
