Hello everyone, I have a question that has been on my mind for a while. How can I clean my IKEA Malm furniture more sustainably, meaning in a way that causes as little damage as possible while avoiding harmful chemicals? I want to avoid conventional cleaners, which often contain aggressive ingredients, and I’m looking for gentle methods or household remedies that are still effective. I’m also interested in any specific tips for long-term surface care to preserve the material and appearance as well as possible. Does anyone have experience with eco-friendly cleaning products for Malm dressers, desks, or bed frames? Thanks!

You should avoid vinegar on Malm. Thanks, good to know! I have been cleaning a lot with vinegar powder, but I noticed the surface is gradually becoming duller.

Avoid abrasive cleaners or alcohol – they will damage the surface. Does this also apply if I have some stubborn stains? Maybe a different mild stain remover?
I would also like to know how to properly care for the drawer slides or metal parts to avoid any damage from moisture or cleaning agents. Thanks for your advice!

Does this also apply if I have stains that are a bit more stubborn? Yes, for stubborn stains I would first try using a damp cloth with a small amount of dish soap. If that is not enough, you can try a paste made from baking powder and water, but rub it in gently. For metal parts, I recommend treating them separately with a dry cloth or a special metal care product, and avoiding contact with water as much as possible.
One more thought: It’s important to regularly remove dust before it settles. This is especially noticeable on white painted furniture. I have noticed that this also helps the furniture look newer for longer. And: Avoid using damp cloths that stay wet for a long time. Let them dry quickly!
