Hello everyone, I have a question that has been on my mind for a while. How can I clean my IKEA Malm furniture more sustainably, meaning in a way that causes as little damage as possible while avoiding harmful chemicals? I want to avoid conventional cleaners, which often contain aggressive ingredients, and I’m looking for gentle methods or household remedies that are still effective. I’m also interested in any specific tips for long-term surface care to preserve the material and appearance as well as possible. Does anyone have experience with eco-friendly cleaning products for Malm dressers, desks, or bed frames? Thanks!

I usually use only lukewarm water with a bit of mild soap. Never aggressive cleaners, as this protects the surface best.

You should avoid using vinegar on Malm furniture. It damages the protective coating. Instead, I recommend diluted lemon juice or a mild dish soap.

I always clean my Malm furniture with a damp microfiber cloth, spraying only a small amount of water beforehand. This is usually sufficient and very gentle.

I think it’s great that you focus on sustainable cleaning! I wasn’t really aware of it myself before, but since I started using only natural products like vinegar-free cleaners, the furniture feels much better. At first, I was hesitant because I thought they wouldn’t be strong enough, but sometimes less is more.

Hi, to protect Malm furniture in the long term, make sure to dust them regularly and wipe them down with a damp cloth. Use only mild, pH-neutral cleaning agents or simply water with a few drops of dish soap. Avoid abrasive cleaners or alcohol, as they can damage the surface. After cleaning, you can also use a dry cloth to remove any remaining moisture. In general, furniture made of particleboard with a laminate finish is sensitive, so use water sparingly.
