Hello everyone, I am planning to furnish my hallway with an IKEA Pax system as a wardrobe and want to create the best possible setup. The challenge is that the hallway is not very wide, but I still want to provide enough storage space for coats, shoes, and accessories. I have been considering whether to use taller cabinets or a combination of different elements to optimize space. I am also interested in how to design the interior, such as clothing rails, shelves, and drawers, to keep everything easily accessible without making the hallway feel too cramped. Does anyone have experience, tips, or alternative suggestions on how to set up the Pax system most effectively as a wardrobe in a hallway? I look forward to your ideas!

A good solution is to choose narrow wardrobe units with a depth of 35 cm (14 inches) to minimize the impact on the hallway's width.

- Use interior fittings with hanging rods at different heights, allowing you to store both jackets and longer coats.
- Add shelves and drawers for scarves, gloves, or smaller items.
- For shoe storage, consider specialized pull-out drawers or shallow shelves.

For a visually lighter look, I recommend selecting fronts in light colors or with mirrored elements to make the space appear larger.

Also, ensure secure wall mounting during installation to guarantee stability, especially when using tall cabinets.

Super exciting project, Ripinon! 👍 I have a Pax system in my hallway myself, combining tall cabinets with open shelving units.

What has worked really well:
- Light-colored doors with glass inserts; this immediately makes everything feel much more spacious!
- Freely customizable interior layout: in my case, there are clothes rails at the top and pull-out drawers for hats and gloves below.
- At the bottom, there is a shoe bench with compartments, integrated into the Pax system.

My advice is to be bold with personalization! In addition to standard solutions, use hanging systems for scarves or a key board on the inside of the doors. This keeps the hallway tidy and doesn’t overwhelm the overall look. Good luck, it’s sure to be awesome!

This is an important point. Glass doors or at least light-colored fronts are often crucial in narrow hallways to avoid visually compressing the space.

Another technical recommendation: use interior sliding doors if there is not enough room for doors to open inward or outward.

Additionally, adjustable interior coat lifts can make it easier to hang coats at the upper level. This way, you can optimize the use of vertical space without having to bend down when dressing or undressing.

Quick recommendation: place wardrobes side by side, with open shelving on the side. Hook rails mounted on the inside of doors save space. Choose a depth of 35cm (14 inches). Clothes rails at the top, shoe shelves at the bottom. Done.
