Hello everyone,

I have installed the Ikea Metod cabinet system in my kitchen and I like the doors, but I’m having trouble with the adjustment: How can I set the Ikea Metod doors so that they close completely quietly?

I’m especially concerned about the soft-closing mechanism and the hinge adjustments, which seem a bit fiddly to me. The left doors in particular often make a slight rattling noise when closing, even though I’ve already tried the available adjustment options.

I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong with the screw adjustments or if the issue is more related to the hinge design.

Maybe someone here knows a detailed guide or a trick to adjust the doors so they close almost silently and without any banging.

I would really appreciate any tips or experiences!

Hey Goheinrich!

First of all, great that you’re tackling this issue – Metod doors can definitely be a bit tricky! 😄

From my experience, most noises come from the hinge when the tension isn’t set quite right. Here’s a tip:

- Slightly loosen the screw that holds the hinge to the door,
- adjust the door a little up or down (depending on where the rattling noise is),
- then tighten the screw again.

The soft-close mechanism in the hinges is there to prevent the slamming effect, but if the door isn’t perfectly aligned, it won’t work properly.

You should also check if the damping unit is completely intact – sometimes the small plastic parts get stuck or slightly displaced, which is hard to notice.

Keep at it, with a bit of patience it will get much better! 😊👍

My experience: Most noises come from the hinge when the tension is not properly adjusted.

That is one possible explanation, but the influence of the frame construction should not be underestimated.

If the door does not close flush, even a minimal gap caused by air pressure or movement during closing can create noises that are easily mistaken to come from the hinge.

Therefore, I recommend checking whether the cabinet side itself and the sliding rails are properly adjusted.

Only in this way can the source of the noises be identified with certainty.

Another point: Many users overlook that the hinge damping can be adjusted using a small screw at the back, which controls the closing speed – a key factor for nearly silent closing.

If no measurements or specific adjustments are made here, the impression of a "noisy door" can quickly arise, even though it is actually just the lack of proper damping adjustment.

One more thing: Many users overlook that the damping of the hinges can be adjusted via a small set screw at the back

Exactly, that small set screw at the back of the damper is crucial.

If you’re having trouble adjusting it, here’s a brief guide:

- Open the door and use a Phillips screwdriver.
- Locate the screw on the damper; it’s usually quite small and somewhat hidden.
- Turn the screw slightly clockwise to increase damping or counterclockwise to decrease it.

If the damper is set too high, the door might not close completely; too little damping causes the familiar loud slam.

If the problem continues, also check whether the door itself is mounted square and without warping. If it’s warped, even perfectly adjusted hinges will only help to some extent.

Does this help? I’m happy to provide more detailed steps if you’d like!
