Hello,
we are currently in the final phase of our construction (painting work).
We have now discovered a horizontal crack in the plaster. Length about 1.20 m (4 feet). Please see the attached photo for the width. Is this crack concerning?
Many thanks in advance.
Best regards

It’s a trend thing that goes along with the desire for as smooth and flawless walls as possible. It covers up imperfections again without adding much thickness.

Having the whole house painted twice cost about 2500€ (~$2700), while full wallpapering would have been an additional ~5000€ (~$5400). We gladly passed on that.

Wallpaper is not a cure-all for cracks. Wallpaper can also tear.

I wouldn’t call it a trend; it has existed for a long time. The demands of homeowners have increased, and with them, the technical effort required to meet these expectations.

Ah, okay, our walls are neither straight nor smooth, so using painting fleece would probably be a waste.

There are excellent walls without painter's fleece. The question was what it is used for.

Non-woven wallpaper isn’t a cure-all for cracks. Even non-woven wallpaper can crack.

Unfortunately, I can confirm that. We have expensive non-woven wallpaper underneath and still got one or two cracks. Some quite long, others shorter… a shame, but probably unavoidable if you don’t use traditional wallpaper or want to avoid wallpaper altogether.

No fleece. Many cracks at the joints with the drywall, which is understandable. And also a few on the ceiling. We actually prefer it this way, so we can see where movement occurs.
