Hello everyone,

I am currently planning the interior finishing. The walls will be handed over with Q2 plaster.

My idea is as follows:
- Smooth the walls as much as possible, but without too much effort
- Apply painter's fleece on top (Erfurt Variovlies V180 or V200S)
- Then paint with Brillux paint

What do you think? I would apply the adhesive to the wall and then stick the fleece edge to edge.

I would appreciate any feedback.

So our Q2 finish with painter’s fleece doesn’t look bad at all. And there are no bumps or uneven spots. It might also depend a lot on the actual workmanship.

Q2 is defined, so maybe you are lucky and had a good plastering job done.

Here is an excerpt from a website, links are not allowed.

This surface, for example, may be suitable for medium and coarse textured wall coverings, such as wallpapers like woodchip wallpaper (grain size RM or RG according to DIN 6742), matte filling paints/coatings (e.g., dispersion paints) that are applied manually with a lambskin or texture roller, and base plasters (grain sizes / maximum grain over 1 mm (0.04 inches)) as long as they are approved by the plaster manufacturer for the respective gypsum board system.

If quality level 2 (standard filling) is chosen as the basis for wall coverings, paints, and coatings, marks—especially under raking light—cannot be ruled out. A reduction of these effects can be achieved in combination with a filler application according to quality level 3 (special filling).

We also used Q2 plaster and applied a painter’s fleece with a basis weight of 190 grams per square meter (6.3 oz per square foot). It looks very good. We only had to fill in a few tiny dents in some places, that’s all. However, we didn’t glue the fleece but used paste, so it might be possible to remove it later. It probably depends on how well the plasterer applies the interior plaster.

Best regards

Which fleece and paste did you use?

The fleece was a brand from the paint supply store, which seems to be available only here in the Rhine-Main area. The paste was from Metylan, NP new plaster adhesive; before applying it, we also primed.

Q2 is a standard that mainly protects the contractor or the general builder, nothing more.

How well Pavel, Boris, and Bronco actually plaster in practice, and how much effort they really put in, is unfortunately not defined in Q2. Maybe they use a lightly textured plaster anyway and skip the painter’s fleece, so you can paint directly. Or it looks terrible, and in the worst case, you first have to create a proper wall structure with plaster guides and reinforcing mesh at critical points. That can also be considered Q2.

Either you agree on Q4 (Q3 doesn’t make sense because the surface requirements equal Q2), or you have to accept whatever you get and then decide how to turn that into an acceptable wall.
