Hello everyone,
I would like to set my cantilever umbrella in concrete.
I own a 300x300cm (10x10 ft) cantilever umbrella from a relatively well-known mid-range manufacturer. There are suitable ground anchors available for these umbrellas, which I have ordered. The recommended or "required" size for the hole is 40x40x40cm (16x16x16 inches).
Due to my installation situation (see attached pictures), I won’t quite meet these dimensions.
From the edge of the patio to the edge of the lawn, it is 40cm (16 inches) at the top edge – that fits.
But because of the concrete wedge on the patio edge, I only have 30cm (12 inches) at the very bottom.
The lawn edge is just laid on gravel.
Since I don’t want to dig up the lawn edge and end up having to remodel everything properly, I would prefer to keep it simple and place the anchor in my “border bed” (see pictures).
Here are my questions:
1. Is it sufficient to set a cantilever umbrella of this size in a 30x40x40cm (12x16x16 inches) concrete hole, or should I be concerned about stability?
2. Could I compensate for the missing 10 centimeters (4 inches) in width by extending the hole to 30x50x40cm (12x20x16 inches) in length? Would that help?
3. Does the position of the ground anchor affect stability significantly? Does it have to be exactly centered, or can it be placed more towards the lawn area (as shown in the picture)?
4. Embedding electrical and water pipes in concrete – should that be fine?
5. I could theoretically place the anchor between the pipes – this would put more tension or pressure on the pipes – could that be an issue?
I would appreciate a brief input!
Thank you!
