You come back from vacation and receive an email about a gas price increase.
A quick look: the consumption price has doubled, and the base price is 25% higher.
And you, who also have a gas heating system?
@Nordlys I know… but who else?

Although it’s not gas, yesterday I received an email from my heat pump electricity supplier saying that the price will be 12 euros per month cheaper.
I wonder why. Of course, I’m happy about it, but somehow it feels strange.

I struggled for a long time with the decision of whether to choose a gas boiler after all. At our local utility company, gas prices increased by 30% starting January 1, 2022. I therefore feel that I made the right choice since electricity costs have remained the same. The price is 3 cents per kWh lower than the cheapest option on comparison websites.

I had firmly expected electricity prices in our basic supply tariff to rise significantly as well, and after this pleasant surprise, I had to cancel the newly signed contract.

My local utilities have not announced anything yet. I hope it stays that way. However, gas and coal together make up less than a quarter of their energy mix, so they should not be affected as severely.

I just received information from my electricity provider that the basic fee will be 20 EUR per year cheaper. The consumption price remains the same. I have no idea how much longer my fixed-rate contract lasts.

It might just be a tactic to appear better off before a later price increase?!

I don’t have gas, only electricity. We have two contracts and two customer numbers with the same provider.

They are now offering a price guarantee for 1.5 years on the old contract. However, this applies only to household electricity and not to the heat pump^^ so when it comes to the interesting part regarding consumption, they want to continue passing on the price^^

Theory:
Starting January 1, 2022, the Renewable Energy Act surcharge will decrease by 3.x cents per kWh. Generally, energy suppliers are required to pass this reduction on to customers even during an ongoing contract.
