Hello,

we have a double garage attached to the house, including an area for a workbench, etc., with a total size of 7 x 9 meters (23 x 30 feet).

The screed is scheduled to be installed on Thursday. I need to inform them about the height—whether I should leave an additional 1.5 to 2 centimeters (0.6 to 0.8 inches) for tiles or not.

I have heard differing opinions within my family regarding tiles versus a two-component coating.

What is your opinion (preferably based on experience)?

Don't forget to buy the correct hardener for that. Keep in mind that the epoxy resin must be mixed very precisely, possibly using a scale. Epoxy resin has almost no smell but is very toxic and harmful to the skin, so gloves and a disposable suit are mandatory. Once fully cured, however, it is harmless and you could even lick it.

Thanks again! I will report back with the results.

Perhaps for the sake of completeness, there is also concrete paint. It costs just a fraction of a two-component (2K) coating but does not last as long. However, it might be an option for the beginning.

Yes, that works for a basement, but since it needs to be drivable, it won't hold up.

Salt is the limit. Otherwise, it works. It depends on the region.

Our garage is tiled with standard floor tiles from the hardware store, of course a bit slip-resistant and not smooth. So far, nothing has been damaged by driving in (C4 Grand Picasso 7-seater). Even in winter, I have never slipped there, so I have no complaints.

We tiled the garage ourselves 30 years ago using acid-resistant tiles. To this day, none of them have cracked or broken. However, some acquaintances have had around 10 tiles crack in the area of the driveway. I believe the tiles need to be set firmly in the adhesive with no voids underneath.

Still, I prefer the coating much more, but that option was not offered to us back then.
