we are looking for a good door manufacturer. Unfortunately, our general contractor can only offer us wooden doors, but we would prefer not to have wood. We are considering an aluminum front door.
Which manufacturers are your doors from? And what did they roughly cost?

Sebastian7929 Oct 2015 13:17For a good front door, you have to spend that much – we invested almost twice as much (though it was a bit hard to swallow...).
It is definitely worth inquiring with local window and door manufacturers or carpentry shops. They are often more affordable and able to accommodate individual requirements within their production capabilities. In my last construction project, I had an entrance door made measuring 1.51 m x 2.26 m (wood, opaque painted surface, flush exterior frame, glazed side panel 50 cm (20 inches), break-in security level RC2N) by a company located 100 km (62 miles) away, recommended by an architect colleague. The door cost a gross €3,400, including delivery but excluding installation. Large manufacturers are not necessarily cheaper, but tend to generate higher profits. A similar relationship can be observed between property developers/general contractors and architects, as well as between prefabricated houses and custom designs.
