Hello everyone,
I recently purchased a new KALLAX shelf unit and am now considering whether to get the matching Expedit doors for it. Since the new KALLAX differs from the original Expedit shelves in some details—such as dimensions, attachment options, and mounting—I’m very interested to hear if anyone has experience with using the Expedit doors on the new KALLAX.
Specifically, I’d like to know if the doors fit securely, how well the hinges hold up, and whether the installation process is similarly straightforward. I assume the shapes are similar, but perhaps there are minor differences that could make fitting more difficult or affect the appearance.
How about the accuracy of fit? Have any gaps or deformations appeared for you? And overall, how satisfied are you with the quality and usability of the doors compared to the old Expedit?
I would greatly appreciate any helpful tips, reports from experience, or advice regarding installation and suitability!
Best regards,
Freya0

Whether the doors fit securely, how well the hinges hold, and if the installation is comparably easy. Hey, I just want to congratulate you—that’s awesome! 🙂
A few weeks ago, I chose exactly the same setup and can only confirm: the Expedit doors fit surprisingly well into the new KALLAX, and the installation is easier than I expected. The hinges are still sturdy, and the doors sit very firmly.
There are minimal differences in the fit, especially around the gaps, but they barely matter. Just align carefully, and everything fits perfectly.
So go for it! It really enhances the KALLAX both visually and functionally. I think it’s a great upgrade! Good luck, and feel free to ask if you have any more questions! ;-)

How is the fit? Have you noticed any gaps or warping? The fit is generally good. The doors have an almost identical design, but the new KALLAX shelf unit is slightly thinner, which can cause minor differences in width and depth. This may result in small gaps, but these can be adjusted since the doors have adjustable hinges. In particular, fine-tuning the hinges helped me align the door neatly.
Regarding the material: The Expedit doors are made from similarly sturdy MDF panels as the old ones. When assembling, it is advisable to proceed patiently and use an accurate tape measure to fit the door precisely.
Conclusion: The doors are a good match for the new KALLAX, but don’t underestimate the importance of fine adjustments. Taking care during assembly helps prevent problems later on.
If desired, I can also provide tips on proper assembly and hinge adjustment.

Doors have adjustable hingesThat’s important. It allows you to fix minor misalignments. The doors are also sturdy.
Only for larger gaps does precise alignment help. Overall, good quality, fits well with the new KALLAX.
