kaanmiHello everyone,
I am considering enhancing the look of my KALLAX shelves by applying decorative stickers to the doors. My main concern is being able to remove the stickers later without damaging the doors. Has anyone had experience with specific types or brands of decorative stickers that can be removed cleanly, leaving no residue or permanent damage such as peeling of the surface or scratches on the KALLAX doors?
I am particularly interested in products that do not leave adhesive residue even after a long time and are easy to apply and remove. Maybe you also have tips on how to protect the doors from damage or tricks for removing the stickers.
Thanks for your feedback!

Hey kaanmi,
That’s great that you want to decorate your KALLAX with decorative stickers! 🙂 I did the same myself and recommend using vinyl stickers. They are very flexible and can usually be removed without leaving residue, especially if you gently warm the adhesive area with a hairdryer beforehand.
That’s exactly what you should look for—high-quality brands stick firmly but not too strongly. After one year, I had no issues; the doors still look like new! Try testing a corner first before applying stickers all over, so you can be sure. Good luck!

Regarding your question about using decorative stickers on IKEA KALLAX doors, I recommend the following:
First, the material of the doors (melamine-coated particleboard) is sensitive to strong adhesives. Stickers with permanent acrylic adhesive can damage the surface.
Therefore, removable vinyl or self-adhesive films with removable adhesive are preferred. Brands like Oracal or 3M offer such films, which are suitable for furniture and can be removed without leaving residue.
Additionally, the surface should be carefully degreased before applying the stickers to ensure even adhesion, which also makes removal easier later on.
This assessment is technically correct when high-quality materials are used.
Finally, I recommend using a cold air heat gun to warm the area before removal to minimize adhesive residues.

am besten Vinylaufkleber zu benutzen! Die sind super flexibel und lassen sich oft rückstandslos ablösen

They can actually be removed cleanly, even after several months. Note: Not every film works well with the melamine-coated KALLAX doors – it’s best to test first.

I’ve had good experiences with statically adhering films.Static cling films are great if you want to avoid adhesives, but they don’t hold as well as adhesive stickers for permanent decoration. If that’s fine for you, give it a try.
One thing is clear: with longer use, you should be careful when removing them to avoid damage.
