Hello everyone,

up to what height are drawers still easily reachable? I am 175cm (5 ft 9 in) tall, my wife is a bit shorter.
What do you use? Photos are welcome.

Specifically: In our small pantry (150 x 105cm (59 x 41 inches)) there is a fridge-freezer unit against the back wall, and next to it currently an open shelf 40cm (16 inches) wide, but it’s never easy to reach all the way to the back there.

Idea: Equip the cabinet with drawers or pull-outs to improve access.
Current plan: See picture, top edge of the highest drawer at 155cm (61 inches):

Who has good or bad experiences here? Please share everything: successes, achievements, frustrations, mistakes. We want to learn.

Or has someone solved a similar problem (very limited space) quite differently and maybe much smarter? I’m all ears (and eyes).

Thanks for your replies and best regards,

Hello,
I assume it works like this. You should only put relatively light but not too small items in the top drawer. The view will naturally be limited because you can only look into the top drawer from the right side (eye level probably between 1.60 meters (5 feet 3 inches) and 1.65 meters (5 feet 5 inches)).

How wide is the existing refrigerator? And how high is the room?
I assume the refrigerator and shelf are placed along the 105cm (41 inches) side...
For the upper drawers, you can also use pull-out baskets; it’s easier to see what’s inside, though they aren’t suitable for everything.

Hi Blubstar,
from about chin height upwards, I would recommend wire baskets. That way, you can still see what’s inside from below.

Hello everyone,

First of all, thanks for the responses.

@Herr Rossi:
A wire basket is actually a good idea, but the wire basket pull-outs don’t feel high-quality enough to me and they don’t fully extend. I will use Maximera drawers there as well, but the shallow ones. The bottom edge of the drawer will then be just below 140 cm (55 inches). The top edge of the drawer side will be about 145 cm (57 inches) high. That should be enough.

@Robi:
Of course, the cabinet and refrigerator are placed side by side on the 105 cm (41 inches) wide wall.

The great thing about METOD is that you can buy drawers separately according to your needs and, for example, install only those at the top at first and if that turns out to be impractical, use them at the bottom instead. I also find drawers at the very top convenient because if I need a small step stool anyway to reach things, I can access them better at the back with a pull-out drawer.
