Hello,

I just rediscovered this forum (had completely forgotten about it, even though it was very useful to me before!). I have a question right away: I have a Dätid extractor hood in my open kitchen. So far, I have been using it with recirculation mode. However, I also have the flexible duct for it stored in the basement, and there is an exhaust outlet to the outside, meaning there is already a hole in the wall. Currently, there is just a standard wall vent covering it, similar to what you usually find in a bathroom.

Problem No. 1: That vent looks exactly like a bathroom vent, which is ugly, and you can see it from the sofa.
Problem No. 2: This exhaust opening to the outside is not directly above the stove but about 2 meters (6.5 feet) away on the wall at approximately 2 meters (6.5 feet) height.

When the kitchen was installed, I had planned for external ventilation and even connected the flexible duct already. BUT: the duct is visible from the living area if I lay it on top of the wall cupboards, plus there is an approximately 80cm (31 inches) long gap where no wall cupboard exists, so the duct would basically be hanging loose. For these reasons, we took it down again and I accepted using recirculation mode.

Now I saw at a friend’s place that she has a stainless steel cover around the duct that runs along the wall up to the exhaust outlet. The extractor hood is also from IKEA, but the origin of the cover is unknown, as it was already there when she moved in.

Does anyone have 1. an idea how I could create something similar, and 2. know where to get or have something like this made? IKEA definitely doesn’t offer it. I once asked at a regular kitchen store, and they tried to convince me I would have to buy a complete external ventilation hood from them, as they don’t sell just the cover, with prices starting at around 1000 euros.

A stainless steel exhaust duct is available from LAGAN for 50€, but some adjustments would still need to be made, particularly around the flexible hose bend.

Hello,
thanks to you. As cladding, that would definitely work. As you said, the problem is the "bend," which would have to be some kind of connection from the straight duct that runs above the hood upward, turning right toward the duct. By the way, I once asked at Ikea, and they all looked at me like I was a wonder of the world. But I can't believe I'm the only Ikea customer on this planet who wants to cover up their ugly pipe, right?

How about using a rigid exhaust (flat) duct instead of a flexible exhaust hose?
They are rigid and made of white plastic, so they could even be painted to match the wall color...

or cover with drywall. Two meters (6.5 feet) of stainless steel above the cabinet doesn’t look very attractive either. And stainless steel definitely won’t be cheap.

If you still want stainless steel, I’d suggest asking a metalworker. They might be able to bend it to size, which could end up being cheaper than other options. If they can’t do it, they might know someone who can.

So I think it should definitely be stainless steel. The white duct has the shape I had in mind, but it looks ugly. As I said, you can see it from the living room, and it is a section to cover where there is no cabinet or anything similar, so it would be directly visible. The idea with the lock sounds good; I will look into it and make an inquiry there.
