As for the laundry room: I would like to point out that most of the time during the day, people stay downstairs. For me personally, it is simply more practical to take care of the laundry downstairs as well. With two children, there is a lot to do, and it would annoy me to have to run upstairs eight times a day just to transfer laundry. Often, it can’t wait. On the other hand, transporting clean and dirty laundry can wait—baskets are always carried up or down when going anyway.
For us personally, having a laundry room upstairs would not have been the right choice.

I really like having the laundry area upstairs.
Accidents involving vomiting or soiling don’t have to be carried through the house, and we spend most of our time upstairs, especially during the week.
When the kids say, "Mom, let me do it myself," they often rearrange the laundry while they’re at it. She does the washing on her own when we’re not at home.
Our bedroom faces northwest, and the children’s rooms face southeast and southwest. Especially in autumn, these two rooms get natural light for much longer and need artificial lighting later. I notice this when I walk from the children’s rooms into the bedroom. I wouldn’t have expected that.
The temperature difference between the rooms was about 1 degree Celsius (1.8°F) in recent days.

When the sun sets in the west, it shines on our terrace. In summer, it sets in the northwest. In the west, it is around 6 to 7 p.m. (18 to 19 hours)... and if getting evening sun is important, you shouldn’t plan a bay window that blocks the sun after 12 p.m. The shadow also gets longer toward the evening...
So you plan in a way that you don’t have to keep rearranging the furniture.
