Hello everyone, I am considering assembling my new Ikea Platsa furniture without the original assembly instructions.
The Platsa series is known for its versatile modules, but the instructions are very detailed and admittedly quite extensive. Since I am fairly handy and have assembled various pieces of furniture before, I wonder if it is realistic to put together Platsa furniture correctly and sturdy without the paper instructions, perhaps by orienting the parts based on their shape and the supplied screws.
Maybe some of you have experience with this or tips on which details to pay special attention to when skipping the instructions? Are there common pitfalls I should avoid? Of course, I want to avoid anything not fitting or becoming unstable in the end.

I can only agree with that. A bit of patience during assembly definitely pays off!

However, it is important to pay attention to the assembly sequence, as sometimes certain parts need to be attached before others.

For everyone who wants to build without instructions, my advice is to create your own simple workflow. It could look like this:
- First step: Assemble the frame
- Second step: Attach the side walls and possibly the back wall
- Third step: Build the interior parts and drawers
- Final step: Install and check the doors
Also important: Check that all metal connectors are firmly seated, as this ensures stability. If you’re unsure, you can use small markings on the parts to avoid confusion.
Of course, having the instructions provides security, but in an emergency, it’s possible to manage without them.

If you approach it systematically, the furniture will be stable and look great.

If you get stuck at any point, try dry-fitting the individual modules before fastening everything. That’s a tip I always give – it saves a lot of frustration! Sometimes a connection looks straightforward at first, but when dry-fitting you can tell if everything fits properly.
So: Don’t be discouraged, keep at it! You can do it!
Addendum to the discussion: If you really want to work completely without written instructions, here is one last tip:
- First, photograph all the parts and sort them into groups.
- Carefully check the screws by length and type.
- Work in clear, logical steps and verify stability after each step.
- Allow yourself extra time, as assembly can take longer without instructions.
With your level of experience, this is definitely doable, but don’t underestimate the detailed work involved. Good luck!
