I bought an expensive fitted kitchen, but it has turned into a nightmare with countless problems. Here is just one issue. Two installers independently said the kitchen was designed incorrectly. The flexible hose from the trap runs upward into the wall connection, causing wastewater to flow back. This could lead to two problems.

1. Wastewater could flow back into the washing machine and dishwasher. The appliance drain hoses connect to the trap at a height of 49 cm (19 inches) from the floor, while the flexible hose enters the wall at 52 cm (20.5 inches).

2. There could be unpleasant odors.

The installers suggested that raising the kitchen cabinet plinth and using a shallower sink would prevent the flexible hose from running upward towards the wall, which would solve the problem.

The company that designed the kitchen says the slope is within the standard range. They claim there is no problem and that backflow and odors cannot occur. Is this true? Is the installation really unproblematic? Does nothing need to be changed?

Thank you for your response!

The flexible hose from the trap runs upward to the wall connection, causing wastewater to flow back. This could lead to two issues.

1. Wastewater might flow back into the washing machine and dishwasher. The appliance drain hoses connect to the trap at a height of 49 cm (19 inches) from the floor, while the flexible hose leads into the wall at 52 cm (20.5 inches).

2. It could cause unpleasant odors.

The installers suggested that raising the kitchen cabinet base and installing a shallower sink would prevent the flexible hose from running upward towards the wall. This would solve the problem.

The company that planned this says the slope is within the standard range. They claim there is no problem at all; no backflow or odors could occur. Is this true? Is the installation really unproblematic? Does nothing need to be changed?

Thanks for your answers!

Did you manage to fix the installation?
