Hello everyone,

The electrician has prepared everything for the installation of a satellite system. Now I need to remove one roof tile and mount the satellite dish there. The electrician is asking for about €600 (material, installation, and alignment).

On one hand, I’m reluctant to climb on the roof myself, but on the other hand, it bothers me to pay €600 for this. I can get the dish, LNB, multi-switch, and mast for around €200.

Is it complicated if you’ve never done it before? What do you think, should I avoid doing it myself and have it professionally installed?

Hi bergi,

The installation is not complicated and can be done without experience (although having experience with connecting electrical wiring is definitely an advantage). The tricky part is the alignment. Without the proper tools, it can be quite difficult and usually won’t be satisfactory for years.

Good luck

And otherwise, you get a second quote, preferably from the local TV technician.
For us, it cost between 40 and 50 euros (approximately $43 to $54) each time (installation and alignment, but not on the roof).

Keep in mind that you need a potential equalization.

Other than that, it is absolutely no problem.

When aligning for the first time, it will be very difficult because the dish needs to be adjusted by just millimeters.

I had a professional do it since I have multiple LNBs, but I did the wiring myself.

For 200-300 euros, you can already get good sets from Fuba with a multiswitch.

I have seen a set like this from Fuba on eBay before.

What kind of roof mast would you recommend? How should I handle the roof penetration? Should I use a universal roof tile flashing, or would it be better to contact a roofer?

It's fine, of course it can always be improved, for example a multiswitch from Spawn. But it is completely sufficient.

For the mast, I used an 80cm (31.5 inches) one because the cables were routed inside.

Roof tiles are original from the roof tile manufacturer.
