Hello
Are there good retrofit smart home systems available?
We bought a semi-detached house as a new build from a developer.
The electrician declined to work with KNX and said he is not familiar with it and won’t do it.
My question is: Are there good retrofit options for smart home systems that don’t require opening up the walls (that is not an option)?
Which systems would you recommend?
Functions:
Light control
Window sensors (preferably invisible)
Shutter control
Music control
Video doorbell
It should definitely be possible to create scenes and rules.
I’m also open to other suggestions for useful functions I may not have thought of yet.

Ventilation? Air conditioning? Heating?
There are thermostats that can receive EnOcean telegrams. These are mainly used in hotels together with window contacts/handles for energy saving.
However, this is not worthwhile with underfloor heating.
Do you want to use the window contacts for security or for energy saving?

Always remember that you need to integrate all these systems in the end for them to actually be effective! Therefore, definitely check in advance with your preferred visualization software or server to see what is supported.
Reading this again, I often wonder why anyone even chooses to build with property developers. Usually, you are making the investment of a lifetime and taking on a often borderline level of debt, only to accept whatever the developer kindly decides to provide. For that amount of money, I wouldn’t want to accept a take-it-or-leave-it approach.

@untergasse43 The problem is, we searched for a long time and could have ended up choosing between this house or none at all 🙂
We looked for land for a long time, and now we have a semi-detached house of 150sqm (1,615 sq ft) plus a heated basement with a 400sqm (4,305 sq ft) plot. If we had found a cheap lot, we would never have been able to build with a basement for this price (the basement was very important to us).
Technical features: standard electrical system with light switches and switches for roller shutters (all electric roller shutters), underfloor heating everywhere (including the basement) with individual room thermostats.
The window contacts are mainly for controlling the roller shutters, so the shutters won’t go down if a window or sliding door is open. I also want to be able to check in the app whether windows are open, closed, or tilted.

That’s an illusion.
A “standard” car can be a VW Golf, a Dacia Logan, or a BMW 5 Series—and the differences are obvious.
It’s not about what the builder installs by default, but how the wiring is done and which systems or manufacturers are used.
“Electric roller shutters” is a broad term, and there’s a wide range of possibilities in terms of execution.
For example, if you use Somfy (just as an example), you might have to forget about integrating devices like Shelly or Fibaro and rely solely on the manufacturer’s proprietary communication system.

I have read this several times in this forum. However, as an addition, Somfy also offers "dumb" motors that can be controlled with any standard actuator.
