Hello

Are there good retrofit smart home systems available?

We bought a semi-detached house as a new build from a developer.

The electrician declined to work with KNX and said he is not familiar with it and won’t do it.

My question is: Are there good retrofit options for smart home systems that don’t require opening up the walls (that is not an option)?

Which systems would you recommend?

Functions:

Light control
Window sensors (preferably invisible)
Shutter control
Music control
Video doorbell

It should definitely be possible to create scenes and rules.

I’m also open to other suggestions for useful functions I may not have thought of yet.

@untergasse43 Did you install Opus in your home?

With Loxone, you are tied to the manufacturer, and the Air version is basically meant as a supplement to the bus system, similar to KNX, right?

No, but I have some experience with it.

Ok, Opus is definitely making the shortlist; I find the system quite interesting.

Are there any other alternatives?

Z-Z-Wave

Any more alternatives?

Connected Home over IP is still some way off, and it is uncertain how long the product lifecycle will be. So, it’s probably not suitable for you after all.

I still have time.
We will have to wait about 1 to 1.5 years until handover.

If we have to retrofit anyway and waiting might be worthwhile, I would probably go for it.

I just want to find out about everything as early as possible and roughly estimate the costs to know the maximum amount we can spend.

No, Geiger roller shutter motors have supported Air for a long time, and many interfaces also allow integration of third-party manufacturers. Additionally, there is a large community that develops interfaces for Loxone.
