I’m currently having my roof frame installed and noticed that the middle beam appears to be too short. The carpenters have simply shoved some extra wood underneath so that the beam rests against the anchor.

What do you think about this? How is something like this usually handled? I’m not even sure if the beam will stay like this in the end or if it’s just used temporarily to support the structure during assembly and then removed later. The beam is positioned roughly in the center of the entire roof.

Regards!

Hello quattro

asking helps.
But it looks like the beam will be removed again.
Otherwise: Not perfect, but a solution.

I checked, and the beam is required according to the structural calculations. So it will stay. Now I’m thinking about how to deal with it. I understand that it will hold as it is, but somehow it still feels like a bit of a makeshift solution to me. Also, it’s not fully sitting on the anchor but slightly protrudes.

The fact that there is wood underneath is not a problem, since the beam itself is also made of wood... I would be more concerned about the overhang, especially if a wall is going to be built there. How is the finished construction supposed to look?

No, it’s not really a problem since the ceiling will be closed there.
The carpenter said the anchor wasn’t installed high enough at that point. I need to measure it.

But as I said, it still doesn’t fully sit on it.

Should I file a complaint or just leave it as is if it doesn’t bother me that much?

Letting remains no problem.
