Hello everyone,
we are planning a new build and now need to finalize the layout of the bathroom.

We have visited two large bathroom showrooms, but there you can only see very spacious bathrooms with very expensive solutions that don’t even offer much storage space.

Attached is a proposal for our floor plan. We actually like it a lot, but in the floor plan forum, we were advised to enlarge the utility room. Do you have any ideas on how to achieve this?

The problem with our layout is the position of the window and the door. Does anyone have a similar situation or a good idea?

Best regards, Afralea.

And a long hallway is really not an issue nowadays with underfloor heating. Just recently, both grandchildren were here and spent the whole time building with Duplo bricks in the hallway. That is living space. And if I have to walk about 3.7 meters (12 feet) from the bathroom to the bedroom in such a small house, I can manage that. My parents even had to go outside to the outhouse during their childhood; I also remember growing up without a bathroom and hot water. Just build the thing, there’s always something. And get used to washing your face with a mirrored cabinet—that works and also gives you a bit more storage space. Karsten

There are certainly nicer things to do than playing with building blocks in the hallway.
Also, it’s a shame to use that space this way: 109 square meters (1173 square feet) with 20% of the total living area—or a space larger than the children’s room—reserved just for circulation.
But if @Afralea is fine with it, that’s okay.
Otherwise, I suggest measuring your furniture and drawing it to scale. With a square living room, you really have to do that, because the appearance of the furniture on a plan can be misleading.

Either the hallway is a hallway, or the living room becomes the hallway. People are going to move around anyway. So please, not always through the rooms. I don’t like the Danish open-plan living concept.

We have already reviewed dozens of floor plans (Heinz von Heiden, Renschhaus, Kampa, Scanhaus Marlow Marlow, DasHaus, Bien Zenker, ...) and unfortunately haven't found anything better.

So you just create something yourself. Inspired by the Town Musicians of Bremen: you can find something better than the standard floor plan anywhere :-)
