ᐅ Automated roller shutters in new construction

Hello everyone,
Basically, I will avoid home automation for cost reasons. The only thing I would like is smart roller shutters, to quickly darken all windows in the summer when it gets hot, for example.
I would prefer to avoid devices like Shelly or similar if possible. It shouldn’t be a DIY solution but still as affordable as possible.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what would make sense?

For our first house, we automated only the shutters and used a system from a medium-sized company in Lower Saxony called HEYtec shutter control. We were very satisfied with it until the end. It was planned from the start, easy to program ourselves, and later an app was added.

If we hadn’t chosen a KNX system for our second house, we would have gone with their control system again. We never had any problems, and you could always call if you had questions—once the owner even came by personally. Configurations could be easily changed via PC, and each shutter could be given a different setting. As I said, we were very happy with it. Maybe this could be an option for you.

Depending on the type of switch material used, Merten Wiser would be a very suitable option. Here, you only need to replace the conventional shutter switches with the Wiser switches. Additionally, this system offers the possibility to make the house "smart" step by step.

I wasn’t familiar with that at all. But isn’t it basically the same as Shelly, except it’s a closed system and more expensive (and operates via Zigbee)? So, just a conventional roller shutter installation, placing an actuator behind the switch/button, and controlling it via an app?

About 20 years ago, I had cables installed for each roller shutter and a switch at each window so they could be controlled individually. One central switch controls all 11 windows with a single button. The additional cost was about 4,000 Euro. I also had a repair once, which included replacing the motor for 500 Euro.

An investment like this is worth every euro. 20 * 365 = 7,300 days multiplied by 11 shutters multiplied by 2 operations equals 160,600 shutter operations. 😉

There are also Shellys for the DIN rail with a LAN connection, which is already a practical solution. Shellys have long since ceased to be just small WiFi gadgets for behind the switch.

We have one control unit (Kaisernienhaus approx. 600€) installed in the cabinet and a Kaiser multi-control unit costing 20€/each installed on every roller shutter. This setup allows you to operate any combination of shutters via each roller shutter switch as desired—3 out of 5 open/close or all open/close, etc.

It requires a J-Y(ST)Y and NYM cable to connect control units and switches.
Additional costs are therefore about 1000€.

Personally, I preferred switches over an app, but if needed in the future, the 20€/each units can be replaced with Shelly devices or similar.
