Hello,
Iâm currently considering the electrical installation in a house with two holiday apartments. KNX is too expensive... Iâm thinking about using two control panels to operate the apartments... Roller shutters, lighting, Philips Hue is great because of the colors and the little light accents you can place everywhere...
The idea would be to install a distribution system with Homematic IP Wired... and run Home Assistant on a Raspberry Pi... I would use iPads in the apartments to control everything smartly from two locations within the apartments... lighting scenes, roller shutters, heating... by the way, are there smart air conditioners or heaters that can be integrated into the system? ... and Powerline communication (PLCs) in the distribution cabinet...
This is roughly how I imagine it... Has anyone already implemented something similar or have tips, etc.?
Regards, Bampa

I wouldnât do this without a switch or button for the really important light sources. In commercial spaces, this would probably not be legal at all without a manual fallback option.

Sorry, but I find the concept without physical switches terrible. If I hadnât been explicitly warned about this beforehand, I would consider it a defect. How are children supposed to manage with something like this? But isn't that exactly what the KNX enthusiasts here keep insisting on? That a true smart home works without any switches or buttons for lights, shutters, etc.? Because everything is controlled through sensors.
Only then does it become cost-effective, since you avoid the conventional fallback level.
As I mentioned before, technical gadgets work very well in your own home, but in a holiday rental? Every guest has different habits that the smart home system doesnât know. Who really wants to struggle with unfamiliar smart home setups while on vacation? Switches are a must. Beyond that, features like color settings and scenes can, of course, be controlled via a panel as an additional option. Thatâs actually quite cool.
But if I want to go to the bathroom at night without turning on the lights, am I supposed to fumble through the smart home app first, or how is the intelligent smart home supposed to know something like that?

Audiobampa3 Apr 2023 20:37Well, switches are necessary when you have rooms with one entrance and one exit, but if you only have one large open space, switches donât make much sense. Instead, controlling different zones from a central point is more practical, and thatâs how we do it here 😉
Also, I think you have to keep up with the times. The guestbook with apartment access details is now only sent via message, so why not include a link to operate the electrical system as well?
Itâs pretty smart and up to date 😉
