Hello everyone,

I want to hang two decorative shelves in the kitchen.

Unfortunately, I noticed in our construction phase photos that the water pipe runs exactly where I planned to drill.

So, we can't drill there.

Do you have any tips on how to hang the shelves anyway? Are there any good adhesives or mounting solutions?

Best regards,
Ivonne

I have used Sika products in vehicle construction (shelves on the side wall), several different types including 552, 260 N, and others. They all still hold extremely well.

It does not have to be Sika, but as far as I know, only Sika is available in small containers.

For gluing, the wall surface must also be suitable. Plaster or wallpaper do not hold well – no matter how good the adhesive is.

You can use a board in the style of your choice, sized larger, and install it over the pipes. Beforehand, fix the baskets to the board with screws. This way, the baskets can securely hold potatoes and onions weighing several kilograms (pounds) without any issues. There is a second advantage: the chosen board provides a frame for the visually unsupported basket, giving it a grounded appearance.

Exactly, a nice teak board, high-gloss lacquered, with the black baskets on top—that’s what I like.

No, matte and worn-looking 😉
No, seriously: with a high-gloss kitchen, you would choose a matte and rough surface; with a matte surface, you’d rather go for contrast 🙂
