Hello everyone,
I am planning to assemble an Ikea Hemnes wardrobe soon and want to complete the build as quickly and smoothly as possible. Does anyone have tips or experience on how to handle the assembly in the fastest way without compromising the stability or quality of the finished piece? I’m especially interested in practical advice on the process, tool selection, useful steps during assembly, or the best preparation before starting. Maybe someone can also recommend how to avoid common pitfalls or significantly reduce the time needed. Thanks for your support!

I think the whole hype around fast construction is exaggerated. If you rush the framework assembly, you risk everything being unstable or not fitting properly. It’s better to work carefully and methodically so that the structure lasts 20+ years without any issues.
Speed equals minimal attention to detail, and that doesn’t work.

Hello Laumit,
Based on my experience, I would like to share some very specific and technical tips to make the assembly not only faster but also more professional:
1) Screw selection: Ikea does not provide high-performance screws, but using a small range of screws, ideally with Torx heads, can make handling easier. This also helps prevent wear on the screw heads.
2) Time management: Instead of assembling the entire piece of furniture in one go, divide the build into clear stages – for example:
- Installing the large side panels
- Preparing the shelves
- Securing the back panel
I pay special attention to following the correct order as shown in the instructions, because some parts may become inaccessible due to later assembly steps.
3) Pressure distribution: For brackets and screws, make sure to evenly distribute the pressure by using washers or by carefully tightening screws at critical points.
4) Support: For parts you need to lift alone, you can place a foam mat or blankets underneath to avoid scratches and maintain a better angle.
I measured on my last Hemnes wardrobe that by following these technical details and using the right tools, you can save about 20-30% of the assembly time compared to the average build.
If you want more details on the order or specific problem areas, I’m happy to provide a detailed report.
