Good morning everyone,
I am currently planning the renovation of my small bathroom (about 3.5 m² (38 sq ft)) and am very interested in using IKEA METOD kitchen cabinets as a storage solution. Are there specific METOD modules or options that work particularly well for small bathrooms? I am especially curious whether the kitchen cabinets can be adapted to meet the special requirements of a bathroom, for example in terms of moisture protection, storage for bathroom items, or smart solutions for compact layouts.
I have read quite a bit but am unsure whether METOD is generally suitable or whether it might be better to use the BADILEN series or other IKEA furniture instead. Perhaps someone here has practical experience or tips on how to use METOD effectively in a bathroom? It would be great if you could also mention any necessary modifications.
Thank you in advance!

METOD is a kitchen series, and even if you repurpose it, it won’t really make a perfect fit for the bathroom.I understand your point, Gilbert, and I partly agree. However, it should not be forgotten that IKEA’s BADILEN actually offers more of a basic solution for bathrooms, which is less modular and often smaller than METOD.

To improve moisture protection, I recommend sealing all edges with water-resistant sealing tapeThat is a crucial tip. Relying solely on the bare carcass will lead to furniture developing mold sooner. Finally, I want to add:
- METOD is particularly well-suited for bathrooms still in the planning stage where individual customizations are desired.
- The products are usually more affordable and very flexible due to the system.
So: You just need to know how to properly protect and plan, and then METOD can be a very smart solution in a small bathroom.

a quick note on ergonomics in small bathrooms with METOD:
- Be sure to consider the door swings of the cabinets so they open easily without obstruction.
- Wall cabinets above the sink should not be too deep to avoid making the space feel cramped.
- Drawers with full extension and soft-close features are very practical and allow for neat storage of even small items.
With these details, even small bathrooms feel larger and more organized.
If you like, I can also provide the appropriate dimensions for these situations.
