Hello everyone,

I am currently looking more closely at the IKEA Platsa series and wanted to ask the community: Are there any specific replacement parts for IKEA PLATSA that, in your experience, are rarely reordered or hardly ever needed?

I’m not referring to obviously frequently replaced parts like screws or back panels, but rather components such as special edge trims, certain connectors, or possibly doors with unusual dimensions or designs. I’m interested to know if some replacement parts are so rarely reordered that they are hardly ever in circulation or maybe even difficult to obtain.

Does anyone in the community have practical experience or insights about which replacement parts tend to be seldom used in practice and why that might be? Thanks in advance for your input!

Hi Listar,

you’ve raised a really interesting question! 😊 From my experience, many spare parts for PLATSA are indeed reordered very rarely, especially small items like screw cover caps or some of the special connectors that are only needed once for certain assemblies.

I would even say that some doors with specific handles or custom dimensions are almost “rare items” – hardly anyone wants to order replacements because usually either the entire unit gets replaced or the quantity in the original package is sufficient.

Of course, screws and similar hardware are commonly reordered since they are all-round parts. Other components practically disappear silently from reordering lists. If it’s important to you whether these parts can be purchased individually – in some cases it’s really difficult to get suitable spare parts without replacing the whole module.

Good morning,

to answer the question in detail, it is helpful to take a closer look at the construction method of the PLATSA series:

- Many components are modular and standardized. Screws, hinges, and simple edge profiles are universally applicable and therefore often requested.
- Special connecting elements that serve a specific function (for example, the small steel brackets for corner joints) are only used in certain models. These are reordered much less frequently because they are not universal.
- Doors or flaps with special surfaces (glass, different colors) and especially custom dimensions are often produced in limited quantities. These spare parts are rarely reordered because they are specialized, and there are often alternative solutions (for example, replacing the entire door or modifying it if necessary).

It is also interesting that IKEA sometimes discontinues spare parts when the series is discontinued. This results in certain parts becoming unavailable.

Could you please let us know if you have a specific issue with a particular spare part? Then we can provide more targeted help.

Cover caps for screws are rarely reordered because they hardly ever break.

Doors with glass panels are also needed less often, as they are usually replaced entirely.

That sums it up quite well. Spare parts for PLATSA are often only available as long as the product line is actively sold. Components like edge profiles or specific connectors can actually become scarce quickly.

So, if you have a custom configuration and a small part breaks, you sometimes can’t get that part separately anymore and have to buy entire modules instead. This makes reordering rarely needed spare parts difficult.

My advice: as soon as you notice a damaged part, check immediately if it’s still available. I wouldn’t delay, since spare parts can be withdrawn from the range within a short time.

I think this topic is great because I have personally searched for replacement parts for my PLATSA wardrobe!

One replacement part that is rarely ordered is the interior base with cutouts for cables – it’s very specific and not often replaced.

What motivates me is that you usually find a solution anyway, whether through the IKEA spare parts shop or sometimes even second hand. Just don’t lose courage!
