Hello everyone,

I recently purchased a piece of furniture from the Ikea Brimnes series and am looking for replacement parts that I can easily and quickly obtain in case of damage or wear. My question is: Are there replacement parts for Ikea Brimnes that are readily available so that you don’t necessarily have to buy a completely new piece of furniture if, for example, a hinge, a screw, or a front panel breaks?

I’m not referring to generic screws or other hardware-store items, but genuine or compatible replacement parts that can be used without much effort. Does anyone have experience with the availability of these parts outside of the usual Ikea returns or replacement part orders?

I would appreciate any practical advice, sources, or tips on the easiest way to get these parts.

It is best to order original replacement parts directly from Ikea through their customer service. For Brimnes, these are usually hinges, screws, and handles, which are available via customer service. If Ikea no longer has the parts, an online replacement parts supplier often helps.

Hello Lubunau,

Regarding your question: Ikea offers replacement parts for many of its product lines, including Brimnes, either through their website or customer service. These parts are often still available even after the original purchase date of the furniture. You can use the part numbers found in the assembly instructions or on the label attached to the furniture pieces.

Additionally, there are some third-party suppliers that provide compatible hinges, drawer handles, or screws. Usually, these parts are very similar in design, making replacements straightforward.

If you like, I can put together a small list of common replacement parts that are frequently needed and where I found them.

That sounds like Ikea is the only reliable source, which I find quite questionable. Ikea manufactures furniture on a large scale and probably doesn’t see replacement parts as a significant sales market. It might even be worth considering whether they intentionally limit the availability of spare parts to encourage new purchases.

My theory is that replacement parts for Brimnes are rather difficult to obtain because the market for individual parts is almost non-existent. Those who truly need replacements often have to rely on improvised solutions or third-party suppliers.

A brief overview of the system for Ikea replacement parts, especially for Brimnes:

- Ikea usually keeps the most important replacement parts available for a long time, often even years after production has ended.
- These parts are mostly hinges, screws, handles, drawer runners, and sometimes fronts or small panels.
- Replacement parts can usually be obtained through the customer service hotline or online service. Some parts are also sold separately in Ikea stores.

However, there are systemic challenges:
- Some components are packaged in sets, so it is not always possible to get just the individual part.
- Specific parts such as drilled panels or special boards are often not available individually.

I recommend the following procedure when ordering:
- Take photos of the damage or the defective area
- Find the part number using the assembly instructions
- Contact the Ikea customer center specifically asking for these numbers

Also interesting: There are specialized replacement part suppliers offering compatible equivalent parts – make sure to check the dimensions very carefully.

Which parts do you want to replace specifically? That strongly influences where you can source them.

Thanks for asking! Specifically, it’s about the hinges on the fronts as well as a small shelf panel that unfortunately broke.

Do you know if the hinges for Brimnes have standardized dimensions or do they have to be exactly from Ikea? And what about the shelf panel – are replacement panels available directly from Ikea, or would I need to be more creative? It would be great if you could give me some tips on how to order the parts or which measurements are important in case I look for replacements from other sources.
