Hello everyone,

I am planning to assemble an Ikea Besta shelving unit soon, but unfortunately, I only have a very tight space available. Since the Besta components vary in both depth and height, I am wondering if you have any practical tips or proven strategies for efficiently assembling it in a confined area without major complications.

Maybe you have experience with the optimal assembly sequence, tool selection, or special tricks for limited space conditions during construction. I look forward to your suggestions and advice that go beyond the standard instructions.

Thanks in advance!

In tight spaces, it’s often hard to figure out how to turn the parts, isn’t it?

My tip: Visualize in advance how you’ll maneuver the modules through the room. Sometimes it helps to mark out the space using cardboard boxes of the right size – it saves frustration!

Also: Don’t spend too much time at once. Taking breaks helps you keep track and stay motivated.

Good luck with the Besta project, you’ll manage!

Install the back panels only after the shelving unit is in its final position, as this saves space during assembly.

I completely agree with this. The back panels significantly limit access to the interior and make adjusting the internal components especially difficult in tight spaces.

It is also advisable to organize screws and wooden dowels beforehand, keeping them within easy reach. This helps avoid time spent searching and reduces the chance of mistakes.

Furthermore, I recommend using a compact cordless drill with continuously adjustable torque for confined areas to prevent damage to delicate parts.

I would also add: Allow enough time and work systematically – ideally, sort components according to assembly steps.

Make sure you have enough light to easily see small screws.

If the space is very tight, a thin mat or blanket on the floor can provide protection and make working more comfortable.
