Hello everyone!

I have a quite specific question that might be interesting for some here: Are there official repair services for IKEA Malm furniture?

I own a Malm bed frame and a dresser, both of which have minor issues – for example, a broken bed slat frame and a faulty drawer runner. The question is whether IKEA itself or authorized partners officially offer repairs, or if it’s better in such cases to rely on general customer service or external furniture repair workshops.

I’ve found surprisingly little clear information online, and the different statements from IKEA customer support and various forums confuse me. Does anyone have solid experience or up-to-date information on this? Thanks in advance!

Hey Herschel64! Great question, and you phrased it really well! 🙂

Actually, IKEA does not offer official repair services for Malm or other series in most countries – which is a bit unfortunate – but they often replace defective parts or entire pieces of furniture under certain warranty conditions. The really good thing is: you can order individual replacement parts through the IKEA online store or in some stores – for example, drawer runners or slatted bed bases.

There are also independent craftsmen who specialize in repairing or upgrading IKEA furniture. It’s worth doing a bit of research online!

To add some clarification, I would like to respond precisely and objectively:

IKEA does not have a systematic official repair service for Malm furniture. Generally, only the replacement of defective parts within the warranty period is possible. IKEA offers spare parts through customer service, including slatted bed bases, hinges, and drawer runners.

A dedicated repair service that, for example, completely refurbishes or restores furniture is not part of the official offering.

For defects outside the warranty period, it is advisable to consult specialized furniture workshops or carpenters with experience in IKEA furniture.

This is the current situation, which also corresponds to the information provided by IKEA customer service and official documents.

Hello Herschel64,

I can understand your uncertainty well, especially with popular bestsellers like Malm, where it’s often unclear how to best handle minor damages.

What you should keep in mind is that IKEA focuses a lot on replacement rather than repair. This means, for example, if you report a broken drawer slide, you might be offered a free replacement as long as you are still within the warranty period. You can request this online or in the store.

Outside the warranty, as previously mentioned, independent furniture repair services come into play. Most of these companies either repair on-site or pick up your furniture. Sometimes, good contacts can be found through local trade chambers or platforms like "MyHammer."

I recommend speaking first with a service representative at IKEA and clearly explaining what is damaged. If no solution is found there, you can then consider which workshop nearby can carry out the repair with a reasonable effort.

That’s an important point – spare parts are often easier to get than many people think.

Official repair services from IKEA for Malm do not exist. Replacement parts can be ordered, but repairs should be carried out by carpenters or furniture workshops.
