ᐅ Are there any methods to speed up the assembly of Ikea PLATSA units?

Giso48Hello everyone,
I am planning to assemble several Ikea Platsa systems soon and would like to raise a general question: Are there proven methods to significantly speed up the assembly of Ikea Platsa systems without compromising stability or quality?
I am especially interested in practical tips for preparation, organizing the individual modules, avoiding common mistakes, or technical aids that can reduce the effort. Of course, I will use the included instructions, but I would appreciate advice on how to make complicated assembly steps more efficient, for example by working on certain components in parallel, choosing the right tools, or other approaches.
What experiences have you had, particularly regarding time savings without loss of quality? Thanks!

To speed up the assembly of Ikea PLATSA, I recommend the following structured approach:
- Before starting, sort all parts and group them according to the instructions. This way, the modules can be assembled in parallel.
- Use a cordless drill with torque control to fasten screws more quickly and precisely.
- Prepare enough small containers for screws and fittings to avoid losses and time spent searching.
- Assemble the modules step by step on site, rather than assembling everything in one go; this allows flexibility in the arrangement.
This method significantly reduces time by minimizing avoidable delays. Quality is maintained since the components are assembled systematically.

Use of a cordless screwdriver with torque control to fasten screws more quickly and accurately. This is a key point. Additionally, I recommend thorough preparation:
- Check all components multiple times before assembly to identify any missing parts early.
- Organize screws and dowels by type in small compartment boxes to avoid interruptions during installation.
- When assembling multiple PLATSA cabinets, it’s helpful to perform identical steps for several units consecutively to build routine.
I also advise marking the position of back panels or connectors before screwing them in to ensure precise alignment. Making adjustments later can be time-consuming and frustrating.

A misplaced screw doesn’t immediately turn the piece into a collapse risk. If you aim for maximum efficiency, it’s better not to meticulously follow every single step but focus on the essentials.
Sometimes "fast and sturdy enough" is better than "slow and perfect." I find this fear of every little mistake really annoying. If you want it done perfectly, hire a carpenter right away – or do it quickly and learn for next time.

Sinan-meo8 Feb 2019 14:12I partly disagree with the opinion that assembly should be done as quickly and roughly as possible. Especially with systems like PLATSA, which are highly modular and interdependent, careful work pays off—both for stability and precise fitting.
Practically proven ways to speed up the process include:
- Reading and fully understanding the instructions before starting assembly,
- Setting up the workspace so all parts and tools are within reach,
- Sorting screws before assembly and, if possible, screwing in parallel (if working with a helper),
- Being patient when aligning parts, as this prevents rework later.
These points save both time AND frustration in the end.
