Hello everyone, I am currently considering creating a custom storage solution using IKEA Platsa furniture. I have a question about whether IKEA Platsa cabinets or furniture come with variants or accessories featuring soft-close hinges that make closing the doors particularly smooth and quiet. In other words, is the Platsa system modular and designed to allow soft-close hinges to be used or retrofitted? I want to avoid always slamming the doors shut, so it is important for me to know if IKEA officially offers such hinges or if there are compatible alternatives that fit well and have proven reliable. I am more interested in the technical feasibility: Are the PLATSA doors generally designed to allow for surface-mounted hinges, as required by the classic soft-close system, or are they rather sturdy but inflexible when it comes to hinge options?
For example, with IKEA’s METOD system, this compatibility is better established.
I want to understand whether the main limitation lies in the door construction, such as thickness or drilling positions, or if the entire mounting system is primarily designed for simpler hinges.
